A

Administrator
The role that looks after the SyncriTab server: settings, certificates, security, updates, the license, and user accounts. Administrator accounts don't need a license unless they also have the Developer role.
Authenticator app
A phone app, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator, that shows a new six-digit code every 30 seconds. One of the two ways to receive two-factor authentication codes. Also called TOTP.
Auto-save
Saves your query pages and results on the server as you work, so you can pick up where you left off after signing out. Controlled by Auto-Save Sessions in Edit › Options.

B

Browse Data
Shows the rows of a table or view from the catalog without writing a query. It returns up to the Number of records for browsing, 100 by default.

C

Catalog
The pane on the left of the workspace that lists the tables, views, procedures, and other objects in the database you're connected to.
Catch-up run
A scheduled task run that SyncriTab makes when it starts again after missing the task's scheduled time while it wasn't running.
Comparison mode
How much Schema Diff can compare between two databases, depending on whether they are the same kind and whether their source code can be read. Shown in each Schema Diff report.
Contact Support
The page for sending a question or problem report to Synametrics from inside SyncriTab.

D

Dashboard
The first page Administrators and DB Managers see: user counts, active connections, memory, and disk use.
Database
On servers that hold several databases, such as SQL Server or MySQL, the one your connection is using. Chosen in the Database list at the top of the catalog. Not the same as a data source.
Database Search
Finds tables, views, columns, procedures, and triggers whose names or SQL code contain a word.
Data source
A saved description of how to reach one database server: its type, driver, and address. A DB Manager creates data sources and chooses which developers can use them. Developers connect with their own database user name and password.
DB Manager
The role that decides who can reach which database: data sources, JDBC drivers, developer accounts, and access to data sources. DB Manager accounts don't need a license unless they also have the Developer role.
DDL
Data Definition Language: the SQL statements that create or change database objects, such as CREATE TABLE. Reverse Engineering and Schema Diff produce DDL.
Developer
The role that uses the query workspace to run queries, explore databases, and export data. Each account with the Developer role needs a license.

E

Encryption at rest
An optional setting that encrypts saved sessions, query results, and query history on the server's disk, and, with the extended areas turned on, saved scripts, workbooks, and reports too.
ER diagram
Entity-relationship diagram: a drawing of a table and the tables it's related to through foreign keys.
Export definition
An export saved from the Export wizard with a friendly name, so the Task Scheduler can run it again, for example every night.

F

Friendly name
A name you choose for a saved export or a scheduled task. It's only a label and can be changed later.

H

History
The list of queries you've run, kept on the server for each data source and database, so you can find and run them again.
HTTPS
An encrypted connection between the browser and SyncriTab. It needs a certificate on the SyncriTab server.

I

IntelliSense
Suggestions for table, column, and other names that appear as you type SQL. Press Ctrl+Space to show them at any time.
IP restriction
A limit on the computers, by IP address or network, from which one user account can sign in.

J

JDBC driver
The software SyncriTab uses to talk to one kind of database. SyncriTab comes with drivers for common databases, and a DB Manager can add others.

K

Keep me signed in
A sign-in option that remembers you in one browser for 30 days. It ends when you sign out or change your password.

L

License
Permission to use SyncriTab for a number of developer accounts, bought as a monthly or yearly subscription.
Let's Encrypt
A free, widely trusted certificate authority. SyncriTab can get and renew a certificate from it automatically.
Login ID
The name you sign in to SyncriTab with. Developers' login IDs are their email addresses. Not the same as the database user name you connect with.

M

Manual commit
A connection option where changes to data are saved only when you commit them, so you can check them first or roll them back. Without it, each statement is saved as soon as it runs.
Maximum records to return
The most rows a query returns in each result set, 10,000 by default. Set in Edit › Options.
MFA
Multi-factor authentication. See Two-factor authentication.
MFA email address
The address that receives your two-factor codes by email, and password reset links when your login ID isn't an email address.

P

Plugin
A database-specific add-on that lets SyncriTab do things plain JDBC can't, such as read the source code of views and procedures, or write CREATE TABLE statements the way the database does. SyncriTab comes with plugins for common databases.
Port
The network number SyncriTab listens on. It uses 21786 after installation, and optionally 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS.

Q

Query page
One tab in the workspace, with its own SQL editor and results. You can have several open at once.
Query terminator
The word or character that separates statements in a script: go on a line by itself by default.

R

Result set
The rows a query returns, shown as a grid. A script can return several result sets, each in its own tab.
Reverse Engineering
Writes the SQL that recreates your existing tables, views, procedures, and triggers into a downloadable .sql file.

S

Scheduled task
A saved SQL script or export that the Task Scheduler runs automatically, at an interval or at set times.
Schema
A named group of objects inside a database, often belonging to one user or application. Chosen in the User / Schema list at the top of the catalog.
Schema Diff
Compares the design of two databases and reports every table, view, procedure, and trigger that was added, removed, or changed.
Script
SQL saved as a .sql file on the SyncriTab server, so you can open and run it again. A script can hold many statements.
Self-signed certificate
A certificate SyncriTab creates for itself. It encrypts the connection, but browsers warn about it because no certificate authority vouches for it.
Serial number
The code that identifies your license, shown on the About page. It's issued for your company name and number of users.
Session timeout
How long you can be idle before SyncriTab signs you out, 30 minutes by default.
SyncriTix
Synametrics' support ticket system. Requests sent from Contact Support become tickets there.

T

Trial
The first 30 days after installation, when every feature works with any number of developers.
Two-factor authentication
A second step at sign-in: after your password, you enter a six-digit code from an email or an authenticator app.

U

Uncomparable
In a Schema Diff report, an object that couldn't be read on one side, for example because your account isn't allowed to see it, so it isn't reported as added or removed.

W

Workbook
Several query pages saved together in one file, so you can reopen a whole set of related queries at once.
Workspace
The query area where developers work: the catalog, the query pages, the results, and the menus.
