Synology Package for Syncrify Client

Requirements

  • Syncrify Client is only compatible with Intel CPUS (x86_64 cpu architecture). Other types (such as ARM) are not supported.

Use the following instructions to install Syncrify Client on your Synology device:

  • For DSM 6, Java8 is required to be installed on the Synology machine. Please search for Java on the Synology Package and install Java8.
  • Open the Synology web interface and log in as the administrator.
  • Usually, the URL is http://youriphostname:5000. If you are in a LAN environment, you can also go to http://find.synology.com to access the web interface.
  • Open Package Center, then click on Manual Install on the upper right side.
  • Click on browse, then select the Syncrify Client Synology package you have downloaded.
  • The first step will give you a warning regarding the package does not contain a digital signature. Click on Yes to proceed. Refer to the md5 signature above to verify the package authenticity.
  • The next screen will be the license agreement page. Click on I accept to proceed.
  • The confirm settings will be shown. Click on both Apply and Run after installation to being the setup.
  • You can access the web interface of Syncrify Client by going to http://youriphostname.com:12345
  • The installation directory of Syncrify Client should now be: /var/packages/SyncrifyClient/target/SyncrifyClient/

IMPORTANT

Due to the configuration changes in DSM 7, by default, Syncrify Client will not run as root. In order to function properly, Syncrify Client must run as root. Otherwise certain files/folder might not backup due to permission issues. Please see below for the full instructions to run Syncrify Client as root.

Use the following instructions to install Syncrify Client on your Synology device:

  • Open the Synology web interface and log in as the administrator.
  • Usually, the URL is http://youriphostname:5000. If you are in a LAN environment, you can also go to http://find.synology.com to access the web interface.
  • Open Package Center, then click on Manual Install on the upper right side.
  • Click on browse, then select the SyncrifyClient Synology package you have downloaded.
  • Synology will give a warning that the package is third party. Click on Yes to proceed. Refer to the md5 signature above to verify the package authenticity.
  • The next screen will be the license agreement page. Click on I accept to proceed.
  • The confirm settings will be shown. Click on Apply (NOTE: make sure to UNCHECK the option "run after installation").
  • The installation directory of SyncrifyClient should now be: /var/packages/SyncrifyCient/target/SyncrifyClient/

Steps to run Syncrify Client as Root

  • If Syncrify Client is currently running, stop the service by going to the Package Center, then go to Syncrify Client, then click on stop.
  • You'll need to get SSH access to the Synology machine. Make sure your Synology has SSH access. Open up a ssh terminal to your Synology and login. Make sure the account has root access.
  • Go to the conf directory where Syncrify Client package is installed. By default, this directory is /var/packages/SyncrifyClient/conf
  • You should see a file named privilege. Open this file with a text editor, such as vi
  • On the 3rd line, change the value from "package" to "root". Save the file and exit
  • Start Syncrify Client by going to the Package center, then go to Syncrify Client, then click on Run to start the package
  • You can access the web interface of Syncrify Client by going to http://youriphostname.com:12345
