EditorSettings45.cfg is a file where WinSQL stores the configuration related to its editor. When WinSQL is run for the first time, this file is created in the same folder where WinSQL.exe is installed.

There are several reasons why you could get an error message in WinSQL complaining that this file cannot be created. The most common reasons are:

  • You are not the administrator on the machine and do not have enough permissions
  • You moved WinSQL.exe to a different folder.
In either case, you can fix this error by modifying WinSQL.conf file, which is located in the same directory where WinSQL.exe is installed. Open WinSQL.conf in any editor like Notepad. This file contains name-value pairs holding different configuration parameters. Search for EditorSettingsFile45 and change it value to a valid path. If you are not the administrator on the machine, use a path where you have permission to create files, such as your home directory.
