Integrating Active Directory/LDAP with Syncrify

Starting with version 5.5, administrators can integrate users in Syncrify with an existing Active Directory or any generic LDAP server, which offers the following benefits.

  1. Eliminates the need to create local users in Syncrify. A user is automatically created in Syncrify when a new user with valid AD/LDAP credentials attempts to connect.
  2. User passwords are not stored in Syncrify but inherit from AD/LDAP.

Configuration Steps

  • Ensure you're using version 5.5 or above.
  • Log in as administrator.
  • Click Configuration and select the Active Directory/LDAP tab.
  • Specify the parameters for your Active Directory/LDAP server.
  • Save the settings
  • Click Test User button to test your configuration

Implementation Note

When a user tries to connect using Syncrify Client, a unique token is created by Syncrify Server. Subsequent backups use this unique token when running backups. Therefore, even if the password for the user changes on LDAP, scheduled backups will continue to work. This connection token gets updated when changes are made to a profile using the current credentials.
