Java Licenses and products published by Synametrics

Oracle changed their licensing policy for Java around January 2019. Prior to this change, products published by Synametrics Technologies, Inc, included a JRE version from Oracle. This FAQ answers some commonly asked questions about this change. This page discusses how JRE will be bundled in future.

Oracle has decided to release a new major version of Java every 6 months and a Long-Term-Support (LTS) version every 3 years. Synametrics will not be updating the JRE in their products every 6 months. Instead, we will focus on providing new features to our product and stick to the LTS versions. Additionally, newer version of our product will be bundled with non-Oracle distribution of Java, which is still free to use.

The table below outlines supported Java versions (or are planned to be supported) by each product.

ProductVersionBundled JRE
Xeams v6.9 Oracle JRE 1.8.0.191-b12
Xeams v7.0 AdoptOpenJDK 1.8.0_212-b03
SynaMan v4.1 Oracle JRE 1.8.0.191-b12
SynaMan v4.2 AdoptOpenJDK 1.8.0_212-b03
Syncrify v4.6 Oracle JRE 1.8.0.191-b12
Syncrify v4.7 AdoptOpenJDK 1.8.0_212-b03

FAQs

What will Synametrics use if not Oracle's JRE?
Future versions of Synametrics products will be using AdoptOpenJDK.

Are the products tested for this new JRE?
Yes. Our products are fully tested on Oracle JDK as well as AdoptOpenJDK. Additionally, our support team also use both JREs to replicate issues customers face.

Can I continue using older versions of JRE
We will continue to support any customer using Oracle JRE 8. However, we recommend upgrading to the latest version to avoid security problems discovered in earlier versions.
