Alternative to NextCloud and OwnCloud

When looking to boost company productivity, it is important to have the right technology in your corner. Regardless of what business one is in, communication and accessibility are key. In today's digital age, having access to corporate information online allows for easier access and usage amongst all employees. Implementing file management software can greatly improve company organization while also ensuring that files stay secure and readily available. Many organizations have implemented services like Office365 or Google Drive as a means of maintaining storage on all devices. However, many of these digital alternatives do not grant peace of mind when considering security and safety. Alternatively, companies may consider the option of a cloud service that allows complete control. Two well-known products that offer this are NextCloud and Owncloud, which allows users to share, send, and collaborate on files all in one space. Created by the same software developer, Nextcloud is an expansion of OwnCloud that brings more advanced features to the table. When using an online file management solution, there are a few key aspects to keep in mind.

  • Who can access this information?
  • How easily can this information be found?
  • Will this improve company productivity?
  • How can I get the greatest return on my investment?

OwnCloud vs NextCloud

The table below shows how the two solutions compare.

OwnCloud NextCloud

While NextCloud is not necessarily a new software, its upgrades allow for users to ensure their files will be maintained and secure while easily accessible and shareable. The key differences between OwnCloud and Nextcloud can be seen in the upgrades with security features as NextCloud users can use the full-text search, workflow management, and branding that were previously available only for OwnCloud enterprise customers. With fewer limitations and greater free access, NextCloud offers the same functionality as OwnCloud at a more affordable rate. However, there are other solutions out there that offer similar features for a lesser cost and a greater return on investment without having to compromise on security or storage costs.
